Welcome and thank you for entrusting your child to Good Shephard House - the official boarding facilities of Good Shepherd Model school. I hope that we will have a long and happy association with you and your child.
Procedure:
I am glad to offer you boarding for your child in Good Shepherd House for the year of 2024.
To formalize this offer, kindly:
- Provide proof of your child's enrollment in Good Shephard Model school.
- Pay registration fee of R200-00 at the hostel office or a bank deposit
- Please complete the application form, obtainable at the hostel and school office and hand it in at the hostel office.
Fee Structure:
All fees strictly paid in advance
- A once-off registration fee of R200-00
- Refundable security deposit of R400-00
- Per quarter: R6 200.00 (x4)
- Boarding fee can be paid in cash at the hostel office, by bank deposit and/ or by swiping at the hostel speed point facility.
(If you pay money directly into the bank, please write your child's name in the reference space on the deposit slip and post it or hand in at the hostel office.) - Alternative payment option: 12 instalments of R2 200.00 payable monthly in advanced.
- Holidays, all accommodation for the extra class is not included and will be charged separately.
- Transport to hospital, clinic, doctors and shopping malls will be deducted from security deposit.

Requirement List:
Each student will require the following:
- Medical aid membership number and Name (Copy of membership card)
- The contact telephone number of parent/guardians or close family friends.
- 2 x medium padlock of good quality
- Cutlery - knife, fork & spoon
- Coffee mug and glass
- Toiletries - Toothpaste, soap, deodorant, etc.
- Toilet paper
- Bedding - 1 x single bed sheet (1800mm x 760mm x 100mm) & blanket or duvet.
- 2k automatic washing powder
- Mosquito repellent (Tabbard or peaceful sleep)
- Insect spray (Doom odourless)
- Washing line pegs
- Small flashlight
- Black shoe polish and shoe brush
- Study material as prescribed by the school
- Pocket money
- Multiple sets of school uniform (At least 2 sets)
- Laundry bag
Home weekends:
- Students are allowed to go home every weekend with permission of their parents.
- Some weekends may be closed due to school activities and the students may not go home.
- Some weekends are compulsory home weekends - all students must go home (Compulsory home weekends normally fall on the weekend of month-end. A list with dates for home weekends will be available)
- If parents are not collecting their children themselves, WRITTEN permission should be faxed or SMSed to allow your child to go home with friends or public transport.
- Sign-out register must be signed
- No student may leave the hotel premises without the permission of the duty teacher.
- Students that use public transport must commute in school uniform.
- Students must be back at the hostel at 18:00 Sunday night or 07:00 the next morning.
Illness of Students
The policy regarding students that fall ill, or are unwell or injured, is as follows:
- Home-based medication - the matron/duty teacher will administer medicine for a minor ailment such as headaches, stomach cramps etc.
- For more serious complaints, a student will be taken to the local clinic if the student has no medical aid.
- In the case of serious illness or injury, a student will be taken to a doctor or hospital. Parents will be responsible for any treatment costs if no medical aid is available.
- The duty teacher or matron will inform parents of any serious illness or injury of their child so that they may decide on a course of action.
- Students should report to the matron or duty teacher if they are ill.
Discipline:
The aim of Good Shepard House is to maintain good order and to create a homely atmostphere where the focus in on school work. Students are required at all times to respect one another, teachers and staff, and hostel property.
Students that transgress the hostel rules will be punished in an appropriate way such as:
- Loss of liberties (Watching TV, etc.)
- Garden work
- Detention
- Kitchen duty
- Expulsion
- Suspension
Laundry:
The student's clothes (NO underwear, socks, Blankets) will be washed and ironed. Students must provide the washing powder. All clothes must be marked clearly.
Meals:
- The hostel will provide 3 balanced meals per day
- Students must attend all meals
- Juice or coffee is served during a study break in the evenings
- A sandwich or fruit is provided for school break on Tuesday and Thursdays.
- Fridges are available to keep students' own snakes
- A tuck shop is available at the school
Study Times:
- Supervised study sessions in the afternoon and evenings
- Times may vary according to school programme and weather
- No Noise, walking around or cell phones use in allowed during study time.
- Private tutoring available at no extra cost
Recreation:
- All dormitories have television sets
- Pool table and soccer table
- Electronic and computer games
- Darts, volleyball, basketball and table tennis
- School soccer & netball fields available for hostel students
- Hostel dances, hostel singing groups
- Drum Majorettes.
- Trampoline, swimming pool and jungle gym
- Trips and excursions (Costs not included in boarding fee)
Religion:
Voluntary church attendance on Sundays
Communication:
- Phone the duty teacher/matrons/ boarding master
- No calls during study times
- Other communication by e-mail / post/ SMS / personal visit
Visiting Hours:
- Normal visiting hours:
Monday to Friday: 15:00 - 18:00
Saturday & Sunday: 09:00 - 18:00 - Please adhere to visiting hours
- Visits outside of visiting hours must be arranged with the duty teacher
Pocket money and valuables:
Should be handed to the boarding master for safekeeping until needed
Electrical Appliances:
All appliances to be declared to the boarding master.
Cell Phones:
Cell phones and other property is kept by students at their own risk
Town Leave:
Must be arranged with the teacher on duty
Breakages:
Students will be liable for damages to hostel property and belongings of fellow students.
